Windows Recovery Series is a fake antivirus program not affiliated with Windows. While the title does use the Windows trademark, it does so it make the user think that Windows Recovery Series is part of the computer software. Windows Recovery Series was instead made by virus creators while hope to make money from selling the software to users. Windows Recovery Series will display a series of warnings and messages to make the user believe that the computer is heavily infected with a variety of viruses including spyware and adware. It is better to scan with a good antivirus program to find whether or not the computer is really infected since Windows Recovery Series will provide a fake scan result. Windows Recovery Series will likely block other programs from running so that the user can’t easily remove Windows Recovery Series. In safe mode, Windows Recovery Series will likely not be able to run.

Windows Recovery Series can be removed with our recommended removal tool. The easiest method to run the removal tool is in safe mode with networking, which will not allow Windows Recovery Series to load unless Windows Recovery Series has tricked the system into thinking it is a necessary Windows program.

Another option (and the easiest) is to do a system restore. System restore will allow the user to load a backup of system data from a previous date (hopefully before the virus had infected the computer).

Manual Removal:

Stop Processes:
Protector-ads.exe (Learn How)

Remove Files:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Protector-ads.exe

Windows Vista and 7: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Protector-ads.exe

Windows Safety Checkpoint is a fake antivirus program. The design of the program is very similar to other Windows program; this is done to make the user believe that the program was put on the computer originally by Windows. However, the program is fake and should be removed before it harms the computer. The purpose of the program is to convince the user to purchase the program, which doesn’t actually remove any viruses. The viruses shown by Windows Safety Checkpoint have been programmed to be shown on all infected computers. A clean computer will also show the same threats as an infected computer. Windows Safety Checkpoint is generally installed by the user unknowingly or installed automatically through a fake scanner website or infected website. Windows Safety Checkpoint will installed and the set itself to load when the computer turns on. Once running, it will take control of the computer and attempt to close down other programs which could remove Windows Safety Checkpoint.

Windows Safety Checkpoint can be removed with Spyware Doctor, which will provide a scan.

The task manager in Windows is a useful tool to stop a virus from running since task manager can be used to stop a process from running. It is important to only stop processes associated with the viruses. Once the user has identified the processes associated with a virus, they can stop the processes from running and then work quickly to remove the virus. In order to access the task manager, right click on the bottom tool bar and select “Start Task Manager”.

Once in task manager, navigate to the “Processes” tab. In this tab, you can right click on a process and select End Process.

In Windows Vista and Windows 7, you can right click on the process and select “Open File Location” which will load the file manager and will show the location in which the virus is hiding. This will help in the manually removal process. You can also stop the processes and then running removal software to find and remove the virus.

Safe mode is a mode in Windows which is used for diagnostic purposes. When infected with the virus, using safe mode can be useful since safe mode will only load programs which are needed by the computer to operate. Therefore, a specific virus should generally not load unless it has become a necessary program to run. Generally, more than 50% of fake antivirus programs will not run in Safe mode. Below are instructions on how to access safe mode.

1. After pushing the power button repetitively press F8. The following screen or a similar screen will show.

2. Choose safe mode or safe mode with networking. Safe mode with networking will load the software in Windows necessary for internet use. Safe mode with networking is likely the best option.

3. Once in safe mode with networking, remove the virus using system restore or automatically remove the virus by scanning with the recommend removal tool.

System restore is a utility for Windows which will allow the system user to load a previous date of the computer files. In order words, it will allow the system user to go back to a previous date. This can be useful if the computer is infected with a fake antivirus program which recently infected the computer. As long as the fake antivirus program hasn’t deleted the restore points, the system user should be able to load a previous date. This tends to fix the problem more than 50 percent of the time.

System restore can be loaded by clicking on the Windows Icon on the bottom tool bar and then typing “System Restore”. Once the system finds “System Restore” click to run the program.

System restore will load and show the following. Click next to see the available restore points.

In Windows XP, click on Start and click on “Help and Support”. Search “system restore” in the search box to find the system restore program, which will look slightly different the version in Windows Vista and Windows 7.

System restore states that “system restore does not affect any of your documents, pictures, or other personal data. Recently installed programs and drivers might be uninstalled.” Please note this went running system restore.

Windows Efficiency Accelerator is a fake antivirus program. The program will infect computers running Windows (therefore, it will not infect computers running mac). The program is not associated with the operating system, Windows. The program will use the name Windows to make the program look like it is part of Windows. The user may think that the operating system has installed the program to find viruses. However, Windows Efficiency Accelerator is a fake antivirus program which will not find threats on the computer. Rather, it is programmed to show threats which it will show on all infected computer. Windows Efficiency Accelerator will start automatically and then block most functions in the computer such as running programs; therefore, the user will probably need to use safe mode with networking to be able to remove Windows Efficiency Accelerator since Windows Efficiency Accelerator will block programs in regular boot mode. In safe mode, Windows Efficiency Accelerator will likely not load, allowing the user ease in removing Windows Efficiency Accelerator.

Windows Efficiency Accelerator can be removed with Spyware Doctor, which will provide a scan. Windows Efficiency Accelerator is a computer virus. Click here to learn more about computer viruses.

The virus can be manually removed. However, it is better to scan with software or to run a system restore to a previous date before attempting to manually remove a virus like Windows Efficiency Accelerator since it could cause system stability issues. Windows Efficiency Accelerator will set itself to automatically load on the computer so that it can attempt to block any attempts of removal.
